Evvy returned from the bathroom in a pair of soft, warm pajamas that were anything but sexy. She expected to find Sebastian in bed fast asleep after the long, eventful day they’d had. Instead, he was at the kitchen table finishing another piece of apple pie piled high with whipped cream.

“I guess it’s safe to say you like my pie.” Evvy laughed.

“You can cook for me anytime,” he assured her.

She didn’t cook much anymore, particularly since her breakup with Calvin several months ago. Every night she’d dragged her ass home after a day of catering to her needy boss, eager for someone to take care of her. Even if that meant picking up a flame-broiled burger or a packaged salad at a drive-through window. She simply didn’t have the energy to spend thirty minutes to an hour preparing herself a healthy meal. But she’d enjoyed whipping up a meal for herself and Sebastian.

Seeing how much he’d appreciated her cooking had only prompted her to make something else for him...thus the warm apple pie with a flaky homemade crust and just a hint of tartness from the Granny Smith apples.

“Tired of the Snowpocalypse coverage already?” Evvy nodded toward the television Sebastian had turned off while she was in the other room getting dressed for bed.

“Got tired of them repeating the same coverage and replaying the same video clips.” He shoveled the last bite of pie into his mouth and did that appreciative humming again.

Her heart swelled. What chef didn’t relish watching someone enjoy their food? Especially when that someone was a notoriously picky eater who’d practically licked his plate clean. But when that person was also a broad-chested human god who was devastatingly handsome with mysterious dark eyes and a sexy little smirk aimed directly at her...well, it just didn’t get better than that.

Evvy surveyed the still-made bed.

“You haven’t picked a side,” she noted.

“Which side do you usually sleep on?”

“The side farthest from the door.” She pointed to the right side of the bed.

“Then I’ll take the left side.” Sebastian rinsed his plate, then put it in the dishwasher. He grabbed the book he’d been reading.

They stood at the head of the bed on their respective sides, sharing an awkward smile before climbing in.

“Do you mind if I read a little?” Sebastian sat against the upholstered reclaimed wood headboard her sister had made.

“Not at all. I planned to do the same. I’m exhausted, but too wound up to go right to sleep.” Evvy picked up the latest addition to author Sharon C. Cooper’s Atlanta’s Finest romantic suspense series.

“See? Not so bad, right?” Sebastian didn’t look up from his book. “And this way, no one freezes to death in their sleep or wakes up with a bad back.”

“You were right. We’re both sensible adults who understand boundaries. And there’s plenty of room in this bed for both of us.”

Within an hour, Sebastian was snoring softly on his side of the bed.

Evvy set her book on the nightstand and turned off the light.
